Sending a smile “adopting a grandparent”
Sending a smile by “adopting a grandparent”
A movement within the balloon community started to gain popularity in early January of 2021. After taking notice that several of the retirement and assisted living community residents have gone month without seeing loved ones due to pandemic restrictions. The #adoptagrandparent movement was born and had a goal to spread smiles and show that our loved ones were not forgotten about. We agreed that now, more than ever, our elderly friends and family could use some extra love and joy!
Our team partnered with the Brookdale Northbrook facility with a goal to provide every one of their 200 residents a special smiling balloon buddy. Each balloon buddy is holding a heart shaped balloon along with a special note of joy and hope attached. In order to make sure no one felt left out, we opted to hold all buddies until the entire facility was adopted and then make one big delivery.
Delivering JOY with balloon buddies!
Thanks to the generous support of our community of supporters, clients, friends, family, and employees we are pleased to announce that we hit our goal of adopting the entire 200 resident facility! On Thursday, March 4, 2021 Tommy and Scott loaded up two of our delivery vans with balloon buddies and headed for Brookdale. The staff at Brookdale, as well as Tommy and Scott, were so excited to deliver the balloon buddies and see the spread of smiles throughout the entire community.
Mission accomplished! The buddies did exactly what we had hoped and brought smiles of joy each resident’s face. Our hearts are also full as feedback from the residents reaches us. One family member commented on the facility’s facebook post stating that her mom is keeping their buddy sitting close by her on the couch. Another resident even wrote us a poem of thanks:
He’s lovable and oh! so cute.
Saying much, remaining mute.
His happy face conveys his charms
concern for me is in his arms.I’ll share him with
great-grandkids dear,
with thanks to those
who brought him here.
